We’re so pleased you’ve signed up for the 2013 Poetry Workshop with Anne M. Doe Overstreet.
Get ready to play, learn, and grow.
Anne writes about this workshop:
We are a people evolving, more mobile and nomadic than we often admit. Always leaving; always arriving. We carry our environment with us, whether urban or natural, interior or exterior. We wear it like skin, keep it in a left pocket. It lurks outside under the white lilac. It shapes the curve of our ear, so like our uncle’s. We may dream strange rivers and wake tasting snow on our lips. Our landscape is uniquely ours; no one can know it as we ourselves do. The details, the concrete images that are peculiar to where or what we inhabit tells us who we are. We should pay attention.
Come join us as we explore where we’re from in a wider way, playing with what sights and scents, what tastes and smells shape us. We may create maps or develop our own field guides to our own peculiar places. Let us listen for blind music and swim out from what’s familiar. Re-vision your personal landscape or give it new clothes. This class is intended to be generative, to flex our poetic muscles and build a body of drafts or ideas grounded in the senses.
“Start with the senses, the reek and the silk and the scrape. Start with the sensual pleasure taken in the object itself. This is how we know a thing. Savor and invent. Then, ask questions of the thing.”
When the workshop begins on February 18th, we will email you instructions for how to enter your online classroom, where you’ll receive:
- A free digital copy of Delicate Machinery Suspended
- An overview of the course schedule
- Detailed information on what will be expected from you
- Course material for the first class
