Poetry is many things, not always discoverable through straight-up study.
The practice of poetry—whether reading or writing it (or both)—can be an oasis for the heart and soul. Sometimes you’ll hear a person even declare, “Poetry saved me.” We’ve heard it from some of you. That makes our hearts happy. 🙂
In honor of poetry’s oasis quality, we thought it would be fun to do a prompt. Try it?

Using the poem title “My Poem is an Oasis,” write a poem. You can go any direction you like with this. Work on sound. Or visuals. Maybe textures. Try cataloging for a touch of magic.
Sample “My Poem is an Oasis” Poem
My Poem is an Oasis
Are you thirsty?
Tired of walking.
Dust-covered.
Lost in the endless
sea of sand…
Come to my poem.
My poem is an oasis!
See here the palm-curled
words a-flutter.
The pool
of peace.
Shade—
as much as you
need.
Come to my poem.
My poem is an oasis.
And you,
the sound
of wished-for
song.

L.L., this is so sweet.

Love that, Bethany!
[Here’s a cool drink to go along with your shade. Whatever you wish it to be. 🙂 ]
