Your Poetry Stories
This year for National Poetry Month, we asked you to tell us your personal poetry stories, in prose or poetry. It was part of a special giveaway: to win a pair from the poetry “How To” Trio of books by Tania Runyan.
We decided that while not everyone could win a pair, everyone could be celebrated by putting their stories and poems into a surprise collection we now want to share with the world. You can download the surprise A Little Book of Poetry Stories & Poems, here.
The language and imagery awoke something inside of me…”
–Tammy Cook, in The Little Book of Poetry Stories & Poems
You Can Still Tell Your Story
Your poetry stories are always intriguing to us. What brings a person to poetry? How does poetry keep them? Funny stories, tender stories, beautiful stories, unexpected stories, we love to hear them all.
If you didn’t tell us your personal poetry story for National Poetry Month, we’d still love to hear. Just add your story to the comment box below. We’ll be reading along.
Oh, and about that giveaway winner…
…congratulations to Alex. She told us that the news put her on cloud 10, which we took to be a very good thing. She chose to receive How to Read a Poem: Based on the Billy Collins Poem “Introduction to Poetry” and How to Write a Form Poem: A Guided Tour of 10 Fabulous Forms.
You can read Alex’s personal poetry story along with the other entrants in the little book we made to celebrate the uniqueness and convergence of their journeys.

I was coming out of a dark place in January 2021. In 2019 my mother passed and I almost died when I was diagnosed with a rare auto immune disease. Then in 2020, Covid hit and we were all in lockdown. Being a teacher, I had to reinvent myself and do everything virtually. I was sick, and I was isolated. Then my aunt invited me to join a poetry group, Pegasus Poets. Reluctantly I joined in January 2021. My life completely turned around when I began to write poems about the weekly prompts that were sent out. Then I subscribed to TweatSpeak Poetry, and I became part of a community much larger than myself. Poetry, reading and writing it, became my life blood. Looking at the world through the lens of poetry saved my life.

Sharmen, this is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
We’d love to hear more about what you’re doing with Pegasus Poets! (And we invite you to sometimes write with us for our Monday prompts: https://www.tweetspeakpoetry.com/category/poetry-prompt/ )

I would be honored to write with TS for the Monday prompts. Reply to the prompts?
